I write stories that celebrate the wonder and diversity of our world.
I am inspired by my mixed Japanese-English background, and love to tell stories where I can share different cultural and diverse perspectives.
I also draw from my training as a research scientist and my work as an award-winning natural history museum curator. I particularly delight in engaging readers with the unusual and overlooked stories of the natural world.
My stories have won the 2024 I Am In Print Picture Book Competition, judged by Little Tiger Books (PRH) and were selected as finalists in the 2022, 2024 and 2025 The Word For Diversity Editor-Writer Mentorship—judged respectively by Random House Books for Young Readers (PRH), Zando Books and Little, Brown Books (Hachette). I was selected for the 2025 We Need Diverse Books Mentorship and the 2022 WriteMentor Summer Mentorship Program.
As a museum curator, my exhibitions have been recognized with multiple awards for their innovation, storytelling and sustainability, and I am the recipient of the Governor General of Canada’s Award for Excellence in Museums: History Alive.
After calling London, Edinburgh, Chicago and Vancouver home, I am currently settled in Cornwall, UK with my husband, three children and hundreds of books.
I am represented by Joyce Sweeney of The Seymour Agency.
